Welcome to the new site for Wits End Comedy Club. Feel free to provide feedback at our Facebook and (or) Twitter pages. Links are on the side panel. Have you ever wondered about our history and how Wits End Comedy Club began? It was a cold December’s day in 1990 when Wits End soft-opened and let-out its first laugh. The original owners were trailblazers! Cathy Cooke and Carol McKelvey – wife of the great 60’s comedian George McKelvey, were the first women in history to open a comedy club. George owned the “original” club named after himself in south Denver on Hampden Boulevard, just up the street from Tiffany Plaza. The Ladies decided to start a club in the entertainment starved North Suburbs. The official opening was in January 1991, (The start of the Iraq/Kuwaiti War). As they say in comedy…timing is everything. Carol retired from club ownership with her husband in 1994 to the warmer climate of Albuquerque, New Mexico. In July 1999 Cathy sold the club to the current owners, Don and Mary Kay. Carol now lives in the bustling metropolis of Hugo, Oklahoma – population 5,536! January 2009 saw the opening of “The New” Wits End Comedy Club. Moving 1 and ½ blocks north of our old location, Wits End took over the space of a long established watering hole called “Pinkies.” With a larger foyer and a totally redesigned theater, the new room has given Wits End, the 2nd oldest comedy club in the Denver Metro, a much-needed face-lift. Current plans for the company (other than putting something on the walls), are to take all the hard work and education learned over 19 years, and use it to start other clubs in our insatiable thirst for world domination. Sorry, did we say that out loud? We mean…to start other clubs to spread good cheer and great fun.
