Holy Fuck is a weekly comedy show run by Dave Ross, Jeff Wattenhofer, and Jessica Ruiz.
Every Tuesday at 9 pm, a sampling of LA’s best stand-up comedians grace the stage of the Downtown Independent Theater. Each show also features sketch screenings, beer specials, and quite often, food from local vendors and bakeries.
Many a great comic has held the mic at Holy Fuck. Louis CK made an appearance once, as did Aziz Ansari. Maria Bamford, The Sklar Brothers, Ron Lynch, and Todd Glass have become veritable regulars on the show, and many more have come through for a night or two, including Paul Scheer, Jimmy Dore, Tig Notaro, Jimmy Pardo…
See, what happened was, in 2009, some good friends of Dave’s requested he start a comedy show at their art gallery because they had recently been busted by vice police for illegally selling alcohol from 2 am to 7 am every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of the preceding year and a half. They still had the lease and needed to make money, so Dave started a show with the intention of selling tickets for 5 dollars to help the gallery. On the eve of the first show, his friends were evicted from the gallery, and Dave, having already booked a lineup, had a full-on panic attack. Luckily, the sweet, sweet people of The Downtown Independent picked up the show.
The next year and a half held consistent good crowds and consistent full-on panic attacks for Dave, until July 5th, when Jessica and Jeff jumped on to share the reigns. They are incredible producers and entertainers, and the only reason Dave is not dead.
As it stands now, the show has been featured in the LA Times, LA Weekly, LAist, Brand X, The Apiary, and the Nerdist Podcast, and continues to showcase the best live stand-up and video sketch comedy our great city has to offer. We hope to see you at the next show.
