UnCabaret is the groundbreaking show that has been changing comedy since 1988. It's the show that Entertainment Weekly calls "Liberating", Los Angeles Magazine calls "Legendary", The New York Times calls "Seminal", LA Weekly calls "The Mother Show of alternative comedy".
UnCabaret is a hot bed of personal comedic storytelling, fostering the careers of iconoclastic comedy stars like Kathy Griffin, Julia Sweeney, Margaret Cho, Greg Behrendt, Laura Kightlinger, Mike McDonald, Bob Odenkirk, David Cross, Janeane Garofalo, Andy Kindler, Jeff Garlin, Andy Dick, Dana Gould, Patton Oswalt, Scott Thompson and Taylor Negron. UnCabaret is where award winning comedy writers like Judd Apatow, John Riggi, Michael Patrick King and Larry Charles have come to connect directly with audiences. Where luminaries like Jon Stewart, Sarah Silverman, Roseanne Barr, Sandra Bernhard, Carrie Fisher and Bill Maher have popped in to try their hand at this comedy free styling.
After a bit of a breather, UnCabaret is back!
The new UnCabaret is has found a perfect new home at the intimate, chic, luxurious and yet somehow homey, First & Hope. The showroom is intimate, chic and elegant. We've added more deeply talented performers - of both the comedic and musical variety. Among them Rob Delaney, Tig Notaro, Natasha Leggero, Jill Sobule, Dweezil Zappa, Drew Droege, Sam Pancake, Jen Kirkman, Garfunkel and Oates, Casey Wilson, Jennifer Colidge, Moshe Kasher, Miss Coco Peru, Alec Mapa, Del Shores, Rebecca Corry, Cheri Oteri, Allee Willis, Jane Adams, Eddie Pepitone, Marc Maron, Rae Dawn Chong, Pete Holmes, Rory Scovel, Xander Smith, Ruby Freidman, Timor and The Dime Museum and Kelly Mantle.
One other change in the new UnCabaret, Mitch Kaplan has come on board as producer and musical director. Mitch is an award-winning singer, songwriter and pianist and has worked as a producer, songwriter, and musical director with such iconic luminaries as Sandra Bernhard, Ana Gasteyer and Cady Huffman. His songs have been recorded by artists such as Chaka Khan, Thelma Houston, Sister Sledge and Martika. Mitch and Beth began working together on music for "100% Happy 88% of the Time" and are excited about expanding their mix of comedy and music into UnCabaret.
Over its 25 year history, UnCabaret has been produced for Amazon Instant Video, as a Comedy Central Special, a daily radio show on Comedy World Radio, a podcast on audible.com and three CD's. In Los Angeles the show has had extended runs at Luna Park, Knitting Factory, HBO Workspace, MBar and The Skirball Cultural Center as well as being presented by the HBO Comedy Arts Festival, The Getty Center, Lollapalooza, and colleges and theaters nationally. UnCabaret birthed offshoot shows Say The Word and The Other Network, and is the subject of a documentary in the making by Little Miss Sunshine directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.
