Dov Davidoff

Meet Dov Davidoff- A Frenetically, Unapologetically, Witty Comedy-Committee (of 1)

“Dov Davidoff lost his virginity at the age of 12 to a Mexican prostitute, and has since been seen on stage, television, and film.” (Quintessential Davidoff= Dark yet Vulnerable)

Why he’s worth watching?

It’s hard to catch the essence of a truly great comedian, and Dov Davidoff is clearly that…seeing his clips online (although hysterical) don’t even do justice to his live show. I imagine a similar reaction to watching Jerry Springer Live, seeing David Hasselhoff sing, and live birth. His rawness breaks the veil of the ordinary and mixes the far-reaching and the farcical.

His go-to material is the stuff of legend (and often the ride home from the show) – it seems to get better on subsequent tellings: His “”why do gay guys always look like they just smelled cookies.” (with his accompanying prancing) is a surefire comedic smart-bomb.

Would a gay man be friends with Dov?

Dov is an open-minded dude and would be a great accessory to a gay guy.

Well, except when he accidentally outed his cousin “during a turkey incident”.

He is a proponent of gay marriage. And he seemed slightly receptive to a guy trying to pick him up by flaunting a “’91 Acura” as his Myspace profile picture.

Oh yeah, and there was the time at the gym… (I won’t ruin that one!! Yes- use your imagination. NO, that’s way to far: jeez, you’re gross. Take a time out please… You’re not doing it- seriously go over to the corner to sit now!!)

His style-

A hint of Bobcat Goldwaith, a pinch of ‘In Treatment’, maybe a touch of Richard Pryor, and an ounce of crack.

He is not as abrasive as Bobcat, is clearly his own psychiatrist, isn’t as raunchy as Attell, and, alas, he wouldn’t share any of the crack.

Unlike the whacko from Monk, you want to see his ranting and raving– you believe that there’s underlying truths to his jokes. Think big and often dark issues- turned to the funny side.

You don’t laugh at him, you silently cheer with him and cheer his victories, however small- whether it be someone who vandalized his bike (“They saw what I had and they were jealous”; it was “a huffy”), out-crazying a crazy person, (saying things like “I can’t eat soup without an envelope, Apple Juice” seems to do the trick”), or putting a judgmental ex-girlfriend in her place.

What would the results be if he appeared on a dating show?

Not knowing Dov personally, it’s unclear how much is Dov and how much is persona. Dov is brazenly frank about his past relationships and the opposite sex- often times perhaps a little overly so…

All I’m going to say is that with Dov’s straight up, tell-it-like-it-is style, I could see the female contestant leaving the stage weeping but most likely a good time had by everyone else.

Where you may have seen him?

Half hour Comedy Central special; talk show appearances include “The Tonight Show”, “Late Late Show”, and “Last Call with Carson Daly”. He’s been on other Comedy Central shows (“Premium Blend” and “Chapelle’s Show”), and also HBO’s Comedy Arts Festival and Just for Laughs Festival. His CD “The Point Is” is available on iTunes.

Not just a talented comedian, but a talented guy.

The guy had a huge part in the Wahlberg-ian epic “Invincible”.

It’s a privilege to cover a heavy-hitter like Dov who is destined to be a household name- So see him before he completely segues into movie and television (just don’t forget who intro’d you!).
