Are you ready to revolt? Well you don’t have to Occupy Wall Street to join the fight because Gabriel Iglesias is bringing the struggle to your DVD player!

Every Revolution begins with unrest and frustration, so you could argue that Gabriel Iglesias’s Stand-Up Revolution TV show was revolting against the lack of Latino Comedy on TV since the George Lopez late night show, Lopez Tonight on TBS, was cancelled in August, 2011. American Latinos looking for comedy that reflected their culture and sensibilities couldn’t find what they were looking for on Spanish speaking networks, and Lopez tonight was one of the only shows on cable that could feed them the fresh, spicy comedy that they hungered for.

When Lopez Tonight was cancelled, A large hole was was left in the TV World;
a hole that would be filled by a man called “Fluffy.”

Fluffy (Gabriel Iglesias) sets out on this TV show, which is now a DVD available for purchase, to serve fans with stand-up comedy from veteran and fresh faced comedians that most TV audiences have never been exposed too. There are various comedy styles packed into this DVD, and while the diversity of talent varies from performer to performer, if you are looking for lots of Hispanic comedy, no other recent DVD packs has much as this one does. This DVD has uncensored and extended material that was not shown on the original broadcast. (Over 2 hours of unseen material & 40 minutes of new stand-up!)

Comedy Central approached Gabriel Iglesias to make his Stand-Up Revolution TV show because he had already proven that he could create and maintain a large audience with his social media presence on Facebook, Google+ & Twitter. When Gabriel took the helm of his new show, he made sure it was full of his friends, which include veteran and fresh faced comedians of various skill levels, his co-host Martin Moreno & Grammy award-winning band Ozomatli. Gabriel hosts each show and starts each episode’s revolution with his trademark voices and silly stories.

The voices and music really energize the show and the extras include a music video produced by Ozomatli, “Hey It’s Fluffy.” This revolution was produced at Arizona’s Stand Up Live, one of the newest and most raved about comedy clubs in Phoenix. With all the recent unrest in Arizona due to their immigration laws, this is a fitting place for Gabriel to conduct his comedy revolution.

Female Comedy Icon Amy Poehler, from Parks and Recreation and Saturday Night Live, will be celebrated and honored with Variety’s Power of Comedy Award during the 2nd annual Variety’s Power of Comedy Event at The Hollywood Palladium.

Folks, this event is poppin’ with the some of the biggest names in the funny business. Will Ferrell, Sarah Silverman, Nick Kroll, Million Dollar Strong & More will all be performing in this epic night of comedy.

Nick Swardson is a funny guy. If you loved watching him in Reno 911 or in the classic stoner flick Grandma’s Boy, then you will definitely love him in the new projects he has coming out. Lucky for us, there are many projects because Nick has been a force of nature, a friggin whirlwind of comedy and below we have collected a sample of what is ahead so you can become swept away by the funny. First there is his short parody of a popular internet porn franchise, which Nick did with FunnyOrDie.com.

Then Swardson has the 2nd season of his sketch TV show on Comedy Central, Pretend Time.  It’s full of classic comedy moments and many cameo’s from other comedians like Al Madrigal and Nick Kroll. Here is a clip from last season, if you haven’t seen the show; it  examines the life of Lady Gaga’s brother. Pretend Time Returns on October 5th!

If that wasn’t enough to satisfy a Nick Swardson fan, there is also a new movie coming out called: Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star. The costume Nick wears is ridiculous in a snorting milk out-of-your-nose way, and this new film that opens on September 9th promises to be just has outrageous and entertaining as his other projects.

Dave Anthony and Greg Behrendt after The Starfish Circus

A door opens and Dave Anthony pops out, anxiously watching as people exit the inner theater of Largo, a cozy venue in Los Angeles. In the first few seconds the audience seems hesitant to approach Dave, but after their excitement builds beyond capacity, a few brave fans laud him for a great set of stand up comedy. Soon more fans enter the courtyard, waiting to talk with Dave when their eyes pop wide upon seeing Brian Posehn and Greg Behrendt enter the courtyard.

Walk The Room Fans Share a drink Before The Starfish Circus

People are excited, and none more than two friends who wore costumes for the event. Christopher Coleman dressed up as a gryphon.  Allison Baziak has dressed up as a Ring Master, her attire accentuated with the little top hat. This is in honor of the name of the show, called The Starfish Circus because of a reference made in the podcast that spawned this night of comedy, a podcast called Walking The Room.

Comedians Greg Behrendt and Dave Anthony let their conversations run wild on Walking The Room, and their dark sensibilities and creative word play have spawned a cultish following. For example, Greg likes to start recent podcast episodes by referring to himself as a Gryphon, and say “I am upon thee,” to which Dave will often reply “What is wrong with you?”

Greg and Dave argue like brothers, until they share a story that unveils their vulnerability, which then causes them to console each other temporarily, a moment often referred to when the duo describe their podcast as a pod-cuddle. Such a moment occurred when Dave talked about how he wasn’t able to find commercial work after taking a break from comedy to reproduce. You can hear the desperation in his voice, and Greg confides his own fears after hearing he was too old for a few comedy opportunities, but soon the moment breaks and the arguments flare again, much to the delight of their fans and friends.

At the Starfish Circus, the friends of Walking the Room podcast came out to show their support with performances. Comedians Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn and Wil Anderson all did sets on stage that had the audience erupting with laughs. Oswalt has done many tweets and onstage recommendations of the podcasts which has boosted awareness of the show. Posehn, like Patton, was a long time friend of the comedians and has appeared on the podcast sharing road stories of their past, giving the audience an inside view into the life of a comedian.

This view of the comedy world has inspired a few of the audience members of The Starfish Circus to pursue a stand up comedy career. Christopher Coleman, the Gryphon dressed fan, revealed that he had recently quit his job as a casino event coordinator in San Diego to focus his energies on becoming a stand up comedian. He is not alone, because a Ford dealership service Rep named Dustyn Willoughby of Orange County was pursuing the same goal. Both young dudes said that they would enjoy the podcast while at work, from their computers and would day dream about a comedy career. This seems ironic because Greg and Dave often talk about how dead their comedy careers are, and how hard it is to create anything in the entertainment industry if you aren’t young, good looking and from New York. It is a testament to how engaging these stories of Greg’s and Dave’s early career are that these comedy fans are willing to face the same rejection.

The stories on Walking The Room do appear to touch fans has well as tickle them, and at The Starfish Circus, Greg Behrendt appeared to be moved by the turnout and enthusiasm of the audience. “A year and a Half ago, I couldn’t get six people in a room,” Behrendt said somberly before telling a touching and funny story about a gay friend in college that taught him how to be brave and accept his identity despite the perils of public perception. For Behrendt, his struggle was not being gay, but learning to accept the beauty he finds in sweaters, well designed lamps and music even though others would tease him for it. Behrendt brought this intimacy to the stage with his band The Reigning Monarchs at the start of the show, and later at the end with a special guest. (we won’t ruin the surprise for you, if this show tours) Sometimes being yourself is talking unfiltered. Sometimes it is accepting your limits,  your weirdness.

Greg and Dave have taken this lesson to heart and with this podcast and show, they are embracing their identity, warts and all. While the industry once said no to these gentleman, the growing audience of fans (A.K.A. Cuddlaz) may raise a ruckus that no industry executive can deny.

While Marc Maron or Adam Carolla represent the respectable comedic storefront of the podcasting world, there are many other podcasts created in dank basements that haven’t quite reached a level of respectability. Far below these basement podcasts, in the sewers of the podrealm, you will find the Mutant Podcast of Dave Anthony and Greg Behrendt called Walking the Room. The duo talk about their stalled stand up comedy careers, their scheming neighbors (lovingly referred to as Hobotangs), and their obsessions  with candy and Juggalo culture.

These podcasts are often unpredictable, full of awkward moments and laughs that will dislodge something inappropriate from your body. (wait till you hear what they reveal about Ellen Degeneres, I would tell you, but I don’t snitch) If you are looking for something dark and funny, this podcast is definitely worth checking out. If you are close to Los Angeles, you may be able to get tickets to their Largo Show on June 27th, The Starfish Circus. They will perform Stand up comedy with Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, and Wil Anderson, frequent guest stars of the podcasts. There will also be some surfer guitar rock from Greg’s band, The Reigning Monarchs.

We just got a copy of Adam Hammer’s new comedy CD ALMOST CLEAN for review, and we have to agree, it’s worth sharing. As Adam talks about politics, his experiments with drugs or global warming, you feel like you are listening to an older brother that has moved back into the house after a few misadventures in the real world. Adam’s voice has a familiar, laid back quality and at times it feels like he could be sitting beside you, taking a pull of a frosty brew while he shares his stories of how life isn’t what he thought it was. You will probably laugh and nod your head in agreement, spouting “freaking a, he’s right, man”, because these jokes hit common experiences in all the right ways.

The Improv Comedy Club Franchise is now bringing the comedy from the stage to your mobile device with their new video podcast called THE COMEDY SIDESHOW hosted by Theo Von. In this inaugural episode, Theo interviews Steve-O and learns about his celebrity-comedian mentor, Clown College and how a funny situation turns into a bit for Steve-o. Later Theo interviews up-and-coming comedian Assad Motavasseli about starting a stand up career.
